On 21 January 2025, Mark T. Uyeda, acting Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (‘SEC’), announced the creation of a new Task Force aimed at developing a comprehensive legal framework for the functioning of crypto-assets.
So far, the SEC has focused mainly on enforcement activities, which have often been perceived as repressive by the crypto-asset industry and market participants. In carrying out its tasks, the group will cooperate with other federal agencies, state regulators and international equivalents of the SEC. Its activities will focus primarily on aspects such as registration requirements, information requirements, enhanced consumer protection, development of innovation in crypto-assets and more efficient enforcement.
