One of Asian central banks has started cooperation with a company that created an innovative banknote disinfection system. The patented technology uses an oxygen-free environment and heat to eliminate pathogens from mould to Sars-2 on both paper and polymer banknotes.

The innovative disinfection system can disinfect banknotes of various volumes in one hour. Banknote disinfection became a hot topic at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. China and Korea began disinfecting used notes, although as the pandemic progressed central banks found that the risk of virus transmission from banknotes was low.
