Project Atlas: a platform for mapping crypto-currency flows

The Bank of International Settlements (BIS) and the central banks in Germany and the Netherlands are working on a platform for mapping crypto-currency and  DeFi flows – the Project Atlas.

The project aims to combine the data collected from crypto exchanges (off-chain information) with details extracted from public blockchains (on-chain information). According to data communicated by BIS, at this stage of the proof of concept, Atlas focuses on improving the data collection methodology and platform development.

According to the source, the first proof of concept has shown how to collect, clean and analyse the data relevant to central bank’s tasks. The project is a starting point of a comprehensive analysis of existing data. The purpose of the project is also to provide data that can be used to analyse the macro-economic relevance of crypto markets and potential consequences for financial stability.
