Council of the European Union has adopted the European Data Governance Act (DGA)

The Council of the European Union has adopted the European Data Governance Act. The Act will be a key document in using certain categories of data and providing data sharing services.

The DGA aims to foster the availability of data and create a trustworthy environment of data intermediaries to facilitate data sharing for research purposes and to create new innovative services and products. The DGA will establish mechanisms to enable the re-use of certain categories of protected data of the public sector, increasing trust in data sharing services and supporting data altruism across the EU. Data altruism will focus on individuals and companies voluntarily sharing data for the common good.

It should be mentioned that the DGA is one of the elements of the European strategy for data.

After the DGA is signed by the President of the European Parliament and the President of the Council, it will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and enter into force 20 days after the publication. The new rules introduced by the DGA will apply 15 months after the date of entry into force of the DGA.
