Should AI robots be allowed to patent their own inventions?

The UK’s Supreme Court is to decide whether artificial intelligence (AI) robots should be allowed to patent their own inventions. The Court wants to hear a computer scientist who filed applications to the patent office, designating AI as the sole inventor of products.

The British patent office rejected the applications for failure to identify any person as an inventor of products. The position was maintained by the Court. Now the Supreme Court will decide whether the ruling of a lower court banning the filing of the patent application on behalf of DABUS robot should be reversed.
